Let's do something different...

In late 2004 Crane Films was producing a Batman Fan Film for a local filmmaker named David Spitzer. Brady and Jamie had contacted David about working to help him get his movie off the ground with Jamie playing the role of Robin in the film. Prior to this Kyle and Brady had been talking about what they wanted to do with their next project. Both knew that they didn't want to do another comedy just yet and the production of the Batman fan film, something that was shot almost entirely at night with costumes, stunts, and epecial effects, had them wanting to shift away from a large scale production.

On a random Thursday night Kyle attended a local 80s night at a bar called The Spanish Moon and was entranced with the culture that had come up around a retro 80s night. Brady set up a meeting with Chris 'DJ Bird' Culotta and one of the icons of 80s night, Eric Bullock and the idea of a documentary on the culture around this 80's night, known as Star 80, was born. Kyle told Chris and Eric that he felt that they had something special going on every Thursday night and he wanted to capture it at it's height before it was all lost to time.

Over the Summer of 2005 Brady and Kyle followed Chris, Eric, and a fun group of kids who would make their own themed t-shirts every week and captured their experiences. The documentary won the 2006 Outhouse Film Festival Golden Outhouse for best picture.

20 years after the premiere screening of Just What I Needed Kyle and Brady approached the original subjects of the documentary to see if an anniversary screening  was something they would be interested in participating in. Everyone agreed to supplemental interviews and an updated version of the movie was created, with extra footage supplied by James Bennett of Sighthound Creative. The 20th Anniversary screening was held on September 11th, 2025, at the Mansip Theatre in Baton Rouge with an after party, Star 80 reunion held afterwards. The screening was a benefit for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.

You can relive the glory of 80's night right now on either YouTube or Vimeo.
